To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
We are looking for an ambitious and skilled doctoral student to join the Chronic Inflammatory Disease Epidemiology group at the Clinical Epidemiology Division. The group is approximately 25 people (doctoral students, postdocs, senior researchers, biostatisticians) conducting epidemiological research using Swedish registers and clinical data. The student will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Elizabeth Arkema and be part of a team focusing on the causes and consequences of lupus and sarcoidosis.
The doctoral student project will focus on assessing the risks of adverse outcomes associated with lupus and sarcoidosis and their treatments. The findings from this project will be used in treatment decisions made by doctors and their patients. The project will use data from the Swedish national and population registers. The student will take part in planning studies, database management, statistical analysis, writing scientific publications and presenting results. The student is expected to work together with other team members in teaching and learning, participating in group discussions and taking part in educational activities at the division.

- Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

(A) and (B) can only be certified by the documentation requirement for doctoral education.
The successful applicant will be self-motivated, analytical, detail-oriented, well organized and professional. We are looking for someone with scientific curiosity who enjoys learning new things and is energized by being confronted with new challenges. It is important that the student have a strong interest in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases and pharmacoepidemiology. It is also important the student genuinely enjoy working with and analysing large and complex databases.

The employment will be at the Department of Medicine, Solna. The Department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. This position is located within the research group chronic inflammatory diseases, and Elizabeth Arkema's research team at the Clinical Epidemiology Division.
