To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The PhD candidate will be working within the IMPACT research group, which is led by Professor Marie Löf (https://ki.se/en/bionut/the-impact-research-group-marie-lof) under the main supervision of Dr Christine Delisle Nyström. The research in the IMPACT group primarily focuses upon the prevention of overweight and obesity in pregnancy and childhood. The group has a large focus on digital health and has many years’ experience in developing tools for both maternity and child healthcare. The group consists of 20 individuals (PhD students, post-docs, as well as junior and senior researchers).

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

This PhD project focuses on the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviours in the first 2000 days of life to prevent overweight and obesity using mobile health (mHealth) interventions in primary child healthcare. The first part of this project aims to study the novel implementation of an evidence-based program for obesity prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviours in young children within primary child healthcare using a cluster randomized controlled trial. The second part of the project will evaluate the feasibility of a parent-focused mHealth intervention to promote healthy lifestyle behaviours from infancy in a pilot randomized controlled trial. The PhD candidate’s responsibilities will include coordinating data collection, processing data, conducting statistical analysis, developing intervention content, as well as writing scientific articles for the thesis. This project includes both quantitative and qualitative components.

A) General eligibility requirement

You meet the general eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:

1. have been awarded a second-cycle/advanced/master qualification (i.e. master degree), or
2. have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the advanced/second-cycle/master level, or
3. have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.*

B) Specific eligibility requirement

You meet the specific eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:

- Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

(A) and (B) can only be certified by the documentation requirement for doctoral education.

Skills and personal qualities

We are looking for someone with a master's degree in nutrition or the equivalent. You need to have previous experience in collecting data in young children and experience collecting data within primary child healthcare is a further merit. You need to have previous experience developing intervention content in the area of nutrition and physical activity for young children as well as adapting the content for other target groups. Experience in processing accelerometry data is a further merit. This position requires that you are fluent in spoken and written Swedish as you will be communicating with child healthcare personnel and parents of young children as well as leading the implementation of the projects within Swedish primary child healthcare. We are looking for someone who takes their own initiative, takes responsibility for their own tasks, and structures their own approach to the work tasks. You need to have good time management skills and prioritize the work in an effective manner in order to meet deadlines. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.
