To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The Lindgren Research Group at the Department of Women's and Children's Health is led by PI Helena Lindgren who will also be the main supervisor for the PhD candidate. The group consists of PhD students, supervisors and researchers within the field of midwifery and reproductive health. Research seminars are conducted on a regular basis every second week. There are altogether around 20 participants in the group (senior professors, associate and assistant professors, postdocs, lecturers and doctoral students). The group has received funding from the Swedish Research Council, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other internal and external sources. The PhD student will be located at the Division for Reproductive Health and have a working space among the PhD students and access to the supervisors.
A healthy mother, a healthy baby and a positive birth experience is the goal for maternity care. The proposed PhD project aims is to investigate if the implementation of the care model MIDWIZE via a virtual platform can improve maternity and newborn care in Sub-Saharan African countries. The PhD student will, in a team with the required competencies, actively participate in the building and developing of a virtual platform, communicate with contact persons in the targeted countries and, if situation allows, also conduct on-site data collection and training abroad.
