To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The student will join the research group of Professor Jonas Bergh at the Department of Oncology-Pathology under the supervision of Associate Professor Theodoros Foukakis. The research activity of the group is in breast cancer, spanning from clinical trials to translational research and molecular biology studies of the disease. The group was recently relocated to the new research building BioClinicum in Solna.
The project will focus on the development of clinically useful artificial intelligence (AI) tools based on histopathology images, using well-annotated breast cancer patient cohorts. The studies will involve the development of models predictive for the biological properties of the tumors and for the effect of treatment and clinical outcome. The specific tasks include the development of AI models based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), multi-omic data integration based on deep-learning and integrative machine learning models as well as correlative analyses including survival analysis.
