To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The principal investigator for the doctoral project is studying how time in physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep affect the risk for non-communicable diseases and secondary prevention strategies. The position is in the research group Physical activity and sports medicine with focus on prevention.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The purpose of the doctoral project is to explore how time in physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep affect the risk of developing non-communicable diseases, based on epidemiological studies. Part of the doctoral project also involves exploring barriers and facilitators for healthcare professionals to support individuals with non-communicable diseases to a healthy lifestyle, based on an interview study. The overall goal of this project is to identify strategies for primary and secondary prevention of non-communicable diseases. The doctoral student is expected to work with data collection, data management, data analysis, manuscript writing, present work at international conferences and attend doctoral training courses. The doctoral student position is possible as part-time (50 %) or full-time (100 %) employment, depending on requests from the doctoral student.

Eligibility requirements for doctoral education

In order to participate in the selection for a doctoral position, you must meet the following general (A) and specific (B) eligibility requirements at latest by the application deadline.

A) General eligibility requirement

You meet the general eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:

1. have been awarded a second-cycle/advanced/master qualification (i.e. master degree), or
2. have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the advanced/second-cycle/master level, or
3. have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.*

B) Specific eligibility requirement

You meet the specific eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:

- Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

(A) and (B) can only be certified by the documentation requirement for doctoral education.

Skills and personal qualities

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic person with good collaboration skills. The candidate must be thorough, organized and possess analytical skills. The candidate is also expected to have good communication skills in Swedish and English (speaking and writing). It is an advantage if the candidate has previous experience of working with motion sensors, epidemiological studies or with interview data.

Terms and conditions

The doctoral student will be employed on a doctoral studentship maximum 4 years full-time.

- Other documented knowledge or experience that may be relevant to doctoral studies in the subject.
