Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The division of Neonatology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and reproductive health at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health conducts research mainly in three research fields: reproductive medicine, reproductive endocrinology and metabolism and gynaecological cancer. The research is both experimental and clinical in nature. The division is also involved in educational activities for medical-, midwifery- and research students. The selected doctoral student in this call will work in the research group of Professor Kristina Gemzell Danielsson based at the WHO collaborating center for Research and Research Training in Human Reproduction, under the supervision of Docent Dr Lalit Kumar based at biomedicum. The focus of the research group is translational reproductive research and organized in three subgroups/areas: experimental research, clinical trials and global reproductive health. The main vision of the research group is to improve the management and access to sexual and reproductive health in a global perspective and translate the research into clinical praxis and policy.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The PhD student is expected to pursue an interdisciplinary PhD that focuses on studies related to identifying non-invasive marker for good quality embryos; cellular and molecular aspects of endometrial regeneration and the link with endometriosis and endometriosis associated ovarian cancer. The student will be offered opportunity to attain theoretical knowledgebase in embryo grading, endometriosis, endometrial cell biology and its regeneration.  This research project involves deciphering molecular markers, identify cell types, its niches and molecular network involved in different biological processes from the data obtained from smartse2/smartseq 3 and spatial transcriptomics.  The PhD student with strong bioinformatic skills will practice several advanced bioinformatic tools and machine learning approach in this study based on translational reproductive medicine.

The project involves collaboration and close interaction with clinical and experimental researchers within the research group along with several international collaborations in Europe and Australia.
