To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
Professor Per Uhlén's research laboratory, located within the Unit of Molecular Neurobiology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) in Karolinska Institutet, Solna, is renowned for its pioneering work in the imaging field. Our team excels in developing advanced 3D imaging technologies, and we have published groundbreaking research in cancer and neuroscience applications (Tanaka N, et al., Nature Biomedical Engineering, 2017 and 2020, and Kanatani S, et al., bioRxiv, 2022). Our primary objectives are to enhance the understanding of tissue architecture of the central nervous system and tissue heterogeneity in cancer, as well as to develop cutting-edge imaging tools.
We are now seeking an intellectually curious, highly motivated, and creative PhD student to join our team. We invite exceptional individuals from around the world to apply for this exciting opportunity.

The PhD student joining our team will have the opportunity to develop innovative 3D imaging techniques under expert supervision. The project's objectives are designed to foster the advancement of high-throughput 3D imaging to be used in basic research to increase our understanding of the central nervous system and enable practical applications in clinical diagnostics of tumor samples. The research aims include:
The project often entails close collaboration with other academic research labs, hospitals, and companies, and the student is expected to engage in these cooperative efforts actively. The successful candidate will participate in various academic and research-related activities, including group meetings, departmental seminars, relevant international conferences, and supervision of other students and researchers when necessary. Additionally, the student will contribute to standard laboratory routines.
Alongside the research project, the PhD student will work towards meeting the course requirements of the doctoral program, as outlined in the relevant rules and documentation available on the ki.se website.
