To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
We are seeking a highly motivated person, with a background in cellular and molecular biology/ neuroscience/oncology, to work with Dr Mathilde Cheray in the Unit of Professor Bertrand Joseph as a PhD student. We are located at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) on Solna campus and are interested in the molecular signaling which regulates the decision between life and death at the cellular level and how its deregulation is implicated in human diseases. One of our research aim is to decipher the transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of microglia tumor promoting phenotype, especially in glioma.
We are studying the role of microglia, the immune cells of the brain, in the progression of brain tumors like glioma. The recent observation of spatial and temporal microglia subtypes led to hypothesize that those subtypes could play a role in the vulnerability of certain brain regions to developing specific tumor types. These PhD studies aim at deciphering if the presence of a microglia subtype at a specific location and defined brain development time frame is responsible for brain tumor progression and/or involved in the tumor resistance to treatment.
