Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The doctoral student will work in a clinical research group that focuses on improving treatment and care for people with substance use disorders. The research group includes researchers and clinicians from a variety of professional backgrounds. The group collaborates nationally and internationally with experts in psychiatric and addiction research. The doctoral student’s four studies are part of a larger research project to improve care for people addicted to prescription narcotics. The doctoral student will be registered at Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, the Division of Nursing, Karolinska Institutet.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The doctoral student will be admitted to the Research school in health science.

The research project will be conducted in primary health care and psychiatric care and consists of four clinical studies that aim to improve early intervention and care for people who misuse opioid analgesics. The student will take part in carrying out a randomized controlled trial in primary care, a prospective cohort study in addiction care, a national register study, and a qualitative interview study. The doctoral student will set up protocol, analyze the results and write a scientific article in English about each study that will be included in the doctoral thesis. The doctoral student will also take courses and present abstracts at international conferences as well as participate in various research seminars.
