Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The Unit of Intervention and Implementation Research

The doctoral student will be working at the Unit of Intervention and Implementation Research for Worker Health (www.ki.se/imm/iir), which is a multidisciplinary unit with around 20 employees. At the unit research is conducted on how health can be promoted at the workplace and in private life. There are huge benefits of investing in a healthy work environment and in health-related interventions both for the individual, employer and society. A prerequisite for these benefits to occur is that research results are implemented and used in practice. Therefore, we also conduct implementation research in which we examine the most effective ways of implementing new knowledge into practice.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The doctoral student will be enrolled in the Research School in Health Science https://ki.se/nvs/forskarskolan-i-halsovetenskap. The doctoral project is focused on identifying the best way to implement the guideline for the prevention of mental ill-health within the workplace. Evidence-based guidelines exist which describe how workplaces can prevent mental ill-health within their organization by managing organizational and social risk factors in their work environment. Despite the existence of guidelines, research has shown that support is needed to promote the implementation and use of guidelines. The aim of the project is to increase understanding of how the implementation of guidelines can be improved. The doctoral studies are part of a cluster-randomized controlled trial, conducted among 50 primary schools in Sweden. The implementation is being conducted in schools due to the high prevalence of mental ill-health among teachers.
The doctoral student will participate in the support given to the schools, which include an educational day and workshops. During the project, the doctoral student will be involved in both effect- and process evaluations. The doctoral student will perform qualitative analyses of existing data and will be involved in new data-collections conducted with web-surveys. The results of the doctoral project will potentially be of great benefit for public health.
