To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The research group
Join us in advancing precision cancer medicine! Our lab is pioneering deep learning models of the molecular networks within cells, aiming to enhance treatment efficacy and contribute with new discoveries in cancer biology. Our models cover metabolism, signaling, and gene regulation, and we train them on extensive high-throughput datasets including metabolomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics. By aligning the model predictions with physical interactions between biomolecules, our approach ensures that the results are both interpretable and actionable. Our group aims to unravel mechanisms of treatment resistance and to identify promising drug targets and biomarkers. We are particularly interested in cancer-stroma interactions in pancreatic cancer. You find us at the renowned Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), where we are a part of the Data Driven Life Science program (DDLS). Taken together, our lab offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the cutting-edge of precision cancer medicine.
Precision medicine aims to tailor treatments to individual cancer cases, considering factors like mutation profiles and tissue origin. However, the complexity of cellular networks hampers our ability to establish causal relations between genetic alterations and disease phenotypes. In this PhD you will address this by a deep learning model of drug responses in cancer.
The PhD position focuses on predicting cell type-specific drug responses, identifying transcriptional signatures indicative of treatment sensitivity, uncovering and mitigating paths to drug resistance, and predicting toxicity effects of drugs in healthy cells. In the dynamic research environment at SciLifeLab, you will have access to top-notch computational infrastructure and mentorship from experienced researchers. This project can have significant implications for precision medicine, and contribute to the advancement of personalized cancer therapies.
