Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

We welcome applications to join our research group at the Centre for Molecular Medicine as a PhD student in neuroimmunology. We offer a unique opportunity to study viral and neuroimmunology in multiple sclerosis (MS) using a variety of immunological approaches.group.

The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in a variety of areas including immunology, neuroimmunology and autoimmunity.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The project focusses on understanding how adaptive immune responses to viruses associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) – such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) – are involved in disease development and/or progression. The student will carry out experimental investigations encompassing T cell and B cell responses to virus antigens and self-proteins, using a variety of immunological techniques from cell culture to immune receptor sequencing. Work with data analysis and statistical methods of collected data will be a large part of the doctoral studies, and the student will also collaborate with other members of our unit performing rodent experimental MS models.
