Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The position is placed at the Integrative Cardiovascular, Cancer and Ageing Research unit (ICCA) at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH). ICCA offers an interdisciplinary research environment bridging clinical medicine and basic science. The doctoral student will join the Björkegren laboratory, a leading group in network medicine and cardiovascular genetics, leveraging large-scale multi-omics studies to understand disease mechanisms.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The project, "Network medicine – multi-omics cardiometabolic phenotyping towards clinical implementations," aims to develop precision medicine strategies for cardiovascular disease. Using unique datasets from the STARNET study as well as UK Biobank and SCAPIS, the student will validate plasma protein biomarkers for early detection of coronary artery disease. The duties involve advanced bioinformatic analysis, transcriptomic clustering, and machine learning to predict therapeutic responses, alongside scientific writing and data presentation.
